Introduction

Florence, Italy, is the cradle of the Renaissance and fine art and the home of the Fratelli Alinari (1845) pioneers of photography in the world. Always in step with the times and new forms of artistic expression, Florence will once again take center stage in 2015-2016 with a series of events called the Florence International Photography Awards (FIPA) to acknowledge and reward innovations in photography and Mobile Art.

The FIPA, a collaboration between the Tethys Fine Art Gallery and the New Era Museum, aimed squarely at Mobile Art, a new frontier of visual arts.

Tethys Fine Art Gallery, situated in the centre of Florence in Via dei Vellutini, 17/R, is a typical alley in the heart of Oltrarno district. It is the only Florentine gallery dedicated exclusively to contemporary photography.

Tethys Fine Art Gallery hosts a rich calendar of temporary photographic exhibitions plus a permanent collection of work by recognized artists and talented young photographers including: Harry Benson, Kate Brooks, Carlo Gianferro, Harri Peccinotti, Newsha Tavakolian, Anoek Steketee. Tethys has collaborated with important institutions like: The Robert Kennedy Foundation, il Festival dei Popoli, Pitti Immagine Uomo, Busajo, Middle East Now.

THE NEW ERA MUSEUM

The New Era Museum (NEM) is a museum without walls committed to the humanistic initiative of the mobile arts.

The New Era Museum's goal is to spread the concept that a new, popular art form is emerging as a worldwide artistic movement, available to everyone with mobile device.

Mobile art has, in effect, launched a new Renaissance in which everyone can participate - without censorship or filters - who wants to change the game.
