Ginger exposed. An interview with Ginger Lucero

Ginger Lucero - NEM Founder Artist

"I was introduced to the world of iPhoneography in the Spring of 2011, and I haven’t looked back.
I enjoy shots of trees, skies, selfies and the abnormal. Though these can change at any given moment as I am a bit eclectic. I find beauty everywhere I look, be it a shadow or a feather; it can’t be avoided. I’ve had my work displayed at the LA Mobile Arts Festival and have been featured on various iPhone Sites."

1. Please, introduce yourself with 2 paragraphs

My name is Ginger Lucero. I'm a homemaker, mother of 2. and have been engaged for 16 years. When I'm not busy with home and kids, you can find me glued to my iPhone.

I like to dabble in everything, and can honestly say that I'm not a favorite kind of gal. My tastes change quite often. I guess you can say I'm eclectic. Repetition is something I'm not fond of.

2. What is "reality" give your own definition, without thinking about a scientific or logic definition

Reality is what we make it. Being able to see, hear, touch and taste are part of reality. But I also think that if you close your eyes, you can find your own reality, let your mind wonder and see where it takes you. No one can tell you what's real in your mind. That's what's so great about the human mind.

3. Tell which are the connections, reactions, that lead to this reality visions and your works

The visions of my work don't always connect. Sometimes they appear as I'm working on a photo. Sometimes, my mind tells me what it sees. Other times, I will see something and have an "Ah-ha" moment. It always varies.

4.What is the theme song, the background theme, the primary essence of your works?

I'm not sure I could give an honest answer to this question. At the moment, the songs that I have on repeat are, Wicked Game by The Weeknd, Who Do We Think We Are by John Legend and Lights by Ellie Goulding.

5.What was the thing that made you decide to become an artist? Do you remember the exact moment...and how it happened?

I think I've always been interested in art, but I don't think I was really aware of the interest until I got involved in iPhoneography. I remember when I finished my photo I thought, 'Wow, I think I may be on to something here.' It was a wonderfully surreal feeling.

6.According to you, a painting, an image, or any other work art, would be able to alter , modify, would improve realty, and awake dormant minds?

I think that with any art, It can open our eyes and cause us to see in a way that we never thought we could. It could allow for expression we never knew we had, and help us to improve reality, even if it's just our own. Seeing in a new way is always beautiful.

7. And last question, what is the true mission of an artist?

I think the true mission, in my opinion, is self expression. Musicians use notes, poets use words, and artists use canvas...but in this case, we use pictures. Our canvas may not be in the traditional sense, but like any artist, we make it our own, with our images, and our stylus as our brush. We share what we create in hopes that we may inspire others.

Thank you Ginger for this short but deep interview.
