"Army men around the house"

GARETH MCGORMAN

From this month we have started hunting real visionaries on the web, publishing their visions, interviewing them looking for new inspirations.

This is the first post of a long series. Please welcome Gareth McGorman.

A. Introduce yourself please.
I'm Gareth and I am a Canadian scale modeller whose hobby has evolved into photography.

B. Tell us a bit about your background.
I've been a scale modeller since I was around 12 or so. At first I started building planes, but then gradually moved towards 1:35 scale soldiers and tanks.

C. What inspired you to first start working on army men around the house project?
I was home one day without much to do and I started taking photos of the soldiers attacking my brother's cat. From there it evolved into pictures of them doing various things around the house and then I started even carrying some of them with me when I went out sometimes to take photos of them lurking around the street.

D. What are your artistic projects in your near future?
As well as continuing to take photos for Army Men Around the House, I am planning to build a few Film Noir themed dioramas inspired by crime films of the late 40s and early 50s. Apart from that I am teaching myself how to make shoes.
